Jasmonates are a group of plant signalling compounds derived from fatty acids that includes jasmonic acid and related molecules such as methyl jasmonate. They regulate many plant responses, particularly induced defences following herbivore feeding, tissue damage, and attack by some pathogens.
Jasmonates also influence growth, reproduction, senescence, and responses to environmental stress. Jasmonic acid is therefore one member of the broader jasmonate family.
