Jasmonic acid is a plant hormone involved primarily in regulating defence responses to herbivores, physical damage, and some pathogens. When plant tissue is damaged, jasmonic acid and related compounds called jasmonates can trigger the production of defensive chemicals, proteins, and other responses that make the plant less suitable for attackers.
Jasmonic acid also contributes to normal plant processes including growth, reproduction, senescence, and responses to environmental stress.
