Trichomes

Trichomes are small hair-like or glandular structures that grow from the epidermis, or outer surface, of plant leaves, stems, flowers, and other tissues. They can serve several functions, including reducing water loss, reflecting excess light, physically deterring herbivores, and producing or storing defensive compounds.

Trichomes vary widely among plants and may be simple hairs, branched structures, scales, or glands that secrete substances such as oils, resins, or toxins.
