An enzyme in plant chloroplasts that plays a central role in photosynthesis. RuBisCO helps capture carbon dioxide from the air and attaches it to a molecule called ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate, beginning the process of converting carbon dioxide into sugars that plants use for energy and growth. It is one of the most abundant enzymes on Earth because nearly all photosynthetic organisms rely on it for carbon fixation.
