A polycarpic plant is one that can flower, produce seeds, and continue living to repeat the process over multiple growing seasons. Unlike monocarpic plants, which die after flowering once, polycarpic plants reproduce many times throughout their lives.
Most trees, shrubs, perennial flowers, and many common houseplants are polycarpic. Some species flower every year, while others bloom only when environmental conditions are favourable, but they retain the ability to reproduce repeatedly rather than dying after a single flowering event.
