A p-value is the probability of observing results at least as extreme as those measured if the null hypothesis is true. It is used in hypothesis testing to assess whether the observed data are consistent with chance alone.
A small p-value indicates stronger evidence against the null hypothesis but does not prove that an alternative hypothesis is true or measure the size or importance of an effect.
