The light saturation point (LSP) is the light intensity at which a plant reaches its maximum rate of photosynthesis. Beyond this point, increasing light no longer increases photosynthesis because another factor, such as carbon dioxide, temperature, or the plant’s photosynthetic capacity, becomes limiting.
Light saturation point is typically measured as photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) in μmol/m²/s. It varies widely among species, with shade-adapted plants reaching saturation at much lower PPFD than sun-loving plants.
