Hastate

Hastate describes a leaf shape that resembles a spearhead, with a pointed tip and two distinct basal lobes that project outward from the base of the blade. The petiole attaches at the base between these lobes.

Hastate leaves are similar to sagittate leaves, but the direction of the basal lobes is different. In hastate leaves, the lobes extend more sideways, while in sagittate leaves they tend to point backward toward the petiole. The term refers only to the outline of the leaf and does not describe its venation, texture, or attachment type.
