A green pigment found in plant chloroplasts that allows plants to capture energy from sunlight during photosynthesis. Chlorophyll absorbs mainly blue and red wavelengths of light and uses that energy to help convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars that fuel plant growth. The pigment reflects green light, which is why most plants appear green.
